Angel smierc t-shirt

S'mierc' is a Polish word meaning "death."  Angel Smierc is a tribute to Polish Winged Hussars--heavy cavalry that played a major role in stopping the Ottoman Turks from over-running Europe during the Siege of Vienna in 1683.

Though often overlooked in general study of history, today's world might be a very different place indeed had cultural, religious, and political power shifted toward Islam rather than Christianity at that time.  To this day that struggle continues.

Polish Winged Hussars during the Siege of Vienna wore wings of feathers on wooden rail attached to their backplate armor.  Combined with the menacing "skull-like" appearance created by the faceplates of their helmets, they may well have appeared as intimidating "angels of death" to their foes on the ground.
